LITERATURE ARTS

SCA will implement the My Perspectives curriculum for grades 6–8. These standards aligned, print and digital programs support the school’s mission by promoting student ownership, engagement, and culturally relevant learning experiences. The curriculum integrates reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language development through diverse literary and informational texts, collaborative discussions, debates, and performance-based assessments. Students will engage with classic and contemporary literature, poetry, drama, essays, and multimedia texts that connect to real-world issues and encourage critical thinking.

Instructional practices emphasize student-centered learning, reflection, choice, and

collaboration to increase engagement among middle school boys. Lessons are aligned to the Common Core State Standards for Reading Literature, Reading Informational Text, Writing, Speaking and listening, and Language. Teachers will use formative and summative assessments with built-in progress monitoring to guide instruction and support individual student growth.
